The Fearsome Four:
Saif, Amir, Rehan, Mudasar
The 2006 Cougars have been revitalized in their
pace department with the return of Saif Kaleem and the emergence
of a fiery Mudasar Qadir as a genuine pace bowler.
Along with the aggresion and bounce of Rehan
Rehman and the guile and swing of Amir Khan, the Cougars have
undeniably the most feared pace bowling attack in the Houston
Cricket League.
Saif has been with the Cougars since 1998 and
single-handedly carried the pace attack until the joining of
Amir in 2002. His 'banana' in-swingers and long run up are
enough to intimidate any frontline batsman. Some of his
spells are Cougar legends in turning match situations and
the team is lucky to have him back at full fitness and
availability.
Amir Khan is probably the most under-rated fast
bowler in the HCL. His prodigous swing and variety have been
known to beguile the best of batsmen. His background is from
Karachi where he played with several first class cricketers. The
most versatile of all the fast bowlers, he can bowl with the new
or old ball, and at the beginning or death overs, with equal
enthusiasm and resilience.
Rehan Rehman has been with the Cougars since 2004
and has added a new dimension of seam bowling to the team. On
his day he can be unplayable and hostile. Let's hope he can
continue to bowl at full pace and consistency to skittle out the
opposition.
Mudasar Qadir was the find of 2005. This bowler
who started off erratically has developed into a speed demon
with his long strides and fluid action. If he can work on his
stamina for long spells and can add a few pounds of muscle,
Mudasar has the potential to be the nemesis for all opposing
batsmen in this league.
This quartet of fast bowlers is the pride of the
Cougars and have been aptly named the "Fearsome Four". Let's
hope they can bowl in tandem to be unrelenting against all teams
and guide the Cougars to their first ever Championship title.
