BACK ON THE RIGHT TRACK
After a shaky start to this
season, the dust in the ranks of Cougars is beginning to settle and the
grain on the willow is starting to appear. The wickets of the opponents
are being rattled and the bad balls are struck high and out of the
boundary by Cougar bats. We are finally playing cricket. Indeed, a
good sign. However, there is still a lot of cricket to be played and
Cougars must tread the path of recovery a little longer.
The path to recovery is usually
found in patient batting and responsible bowling. In other words, it is
not a very exciting brand of cricket. Do not tell this to anyone who
witnessed the onslaught brought upon our opponent this weekend by Rehan
(68 from 28 balls), and Mustafa C. (39 from 19 balls). It was a
masterful display of stroke playing of 130 odd runs scored in a mere 60
deliveries. It was brutal enough to be called illegal. Earlier in the
inning, it was Hemani's calculated knock of 74 that anchored the
inning. Hemani was well supported by Danish (35) and Jam (51).
Cougars put up a mammoth total of 322 for the loss of 6 wickets in 40 overs.
The fireworks, however, were
far from over as the captain had yet a few more tricks to pull out. The
batting of our opponents never looked comfortable as they lost a couple
of early wickets. However, the actual demolition needed only 7.2
splendid overs from Amir to haul 6 wickets for only 20 runs. Insert in
as highlights a fabulous, over the shoulder catch from Rehan and an
amazing sprinting grab on long off from Amir and we have a total team
effort. In the end, a comfortable win for Cougars.
There were so many deserving "man of the match" in this contest that it is only fitting to give accolades to the entire team.
See u all next week!
Amir
