The Silent Assassin
By Roshan Ngangom

(With so many teams in the Houston Cricket League and the introduction of new teams and players it is difficult to keep track of players who have been part of HCL for the past so many years. Houston Cougars Cricket club with the help of other clubs, will make an effort to highlight accomplishments of these players. This week, it's the turn of RCC batsman Ranil Abeysekera)

There are not too many players in the HCL who has been associated with the league for 10 years or more. On such individual is Ranil Abeysekera (or simply Ranil) of Renegades Cricket Club. Ranil is the only one among the founding members of RCC, who is still playing actively. Ranil longevity in HCL is the result of a few key traits he possesses.

His batting is characterized by classic techniques and eye pleasing fluency. More often than not he has given company to other batsmen in the team during a good batting outing for RCC. He is what I would term as the point guard for RCC. Apart from his batting skills he is a reliable fielder who is deceptively quick. He also dons the wicket keeping gloves when the need arises.

Apart from being active on the field, Ranil’s contribution to RCC as an organization has be nothing but immense. Be it in conducting the annual RCC Super 8 tournament or the day-to-day affairs of the club, Ranil’s has always stepped up to the plate. He has been serving as the club treasurer for the last 2 years. All of this on top of being a father of two.

RCC & HCL salutes you!
